Material Care Guide - Pearl Art Gallery
Last Updated: October 12, 2024
At Pearl Art Gallery, we believe your jewellery should not only be beautiful but also made to last. Our pieces are crafted with high-quality materials that are designed to be cherished and worn every day. To help you enjoy your jewellery for years to come, we’ve put together this care guide to ensure your pieces stay looking their best.
Materials:
18k Gold-Plated Stainless Steel
Our gold-plated pieces are made from 304 stainless steel and coated with a triple PVD layer of 18k gold. This makes them highly durable, resistant to water and tarnishing, and designed to last when cared for properly. They’re also hypoallergenic, so no worries about green skin—plus, we never use lead or nickel. To keep your jewellery shining bright, we recommend minimizing exposure to water, liquids, and chemicals.
Stainless Steel
Our stainless steel pieces are made from 304 stainless steel with a thickness of 0.3 microns. Like our gold-plated jewellery, they are durable, water-resistant, and tarnish-resistant, with long-lasting plating when cared for correctly. They’re hypoallergenic, so you won’t experience any skin irritation. Limiting contact with water, liquids, and chemicals will help maintain their brilliance for years to come.
Is Your Jewellery 'Waterproof'?
Our 'waterproof' jewellery is created with a stainless steel base and coated with a gold PVD plating process. This makes it more resistant to water exposure than typical high-street jewellery, but keep in mind, even PVD-coated jewellery will fade over time with regular water contact—just at a slower pace.
Solid gold is the only truly waterproof jewellery, but it's also much more expensive. Our gold PVD-plated pieces offer an affordable option for anyone who loves to add fresh styles to their collection while maintaining quality and durability.
With proper care, your Pearl Art Gallery jewellery will last for years without turning your skin green. Just remember to take off your jewellery before it comes into contact with water or chemicals whenever possible.
Caring and Storing Your Jewellery:
- Lotions, perfumes, deodorants, and household items can damage your gold-plated jewellery and cause discolouration.
- While stainless steel jewellery can handle water, frequent contact with moisture can reduce its lifespan. We suggest removing your jewellery when exercising, washing your hands, showering, swimming, or doing anything that involves water.
- Store your pieces separately to avoid scratching or tangling—our organic cotton cloth pouches are perfect for this!
- Take off your jewellery before bed to prevent any wear and tear while you sleep.
- Always put your jewellery on last when dressing, and take it off first when undressing.
Cleaning:
After wearing, gently wipe your jewellery with a soft, non-abrasive cloth to keep it shiny. Regular cleaning can help restore its sparkle.
Caring for Your Pearls:
To maintain your pearls’ lustre, gently wipe them with a lint-free cloth and store them in the organic cotton pouch provided by Pearl Art Gallery. Pearls are delicate, so it's best to remove them before coming into contact with water or liquids.
Caring for Your Natural Stones:
Use a Soft Cloth: Gently wipe the surface of the natural stone with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing it. This helps remove dirt, oils, and any other residues.
Mild Soap and Water: If your stone is looking dull, mix a small amount of mild dish soap with lukewarm water. Soak a soft cloth or brush in the solution, and gently clean the stone’s surface. Avoid using harsh chemicals or cleaning products as they may damage the stone’s finish.
Avoid Soaking: Do not soak your natural stone jewellery in water, as some stones are porous and can absorb water, leading to discolouration or weakening of the stone.
Rinse Carefully: After cleaning with soap, lightly rinse the stone with lukewarm water, ensuring that no soap residue is left behind.
Dry Thoroughly: Pat the jewellery dry with a soft, clean towel, and allow it to fully air dry before storing it.
Keep Away from Chemicals: Avoid exposing your natural stone jewellery to perfumes, lotions, or household cleaning products as these can damage the stone's surface or cause fading over time.
Store Properly: Store your natural stone jewellery separately in a soft pouch or cloth bag to avoid scratches or damage.
Over time, all jewellery especially pieces made from delicate materials like gold and silver can naturally fade due to wear, exposure to moisture, air, and chemicals. This isn’t considered a defect but rather part of the jewellery's natural aging process.
All our pieces come with an anti-tarnish coating to keep them looking great for as long as possible. Plus, they’re hypoallergenic, lead and nickel-free, and won’t leave green marks on your skin!
